How to use the photo albums

The photos are stored in the vaults of the Bank of England (empty since Gordon flogged the UK's gold reserves a number of years back to plug a few holes in his accounts)! Therefore getting them out needs more than just one click:

1 Click on the chosen link on the index page. A new window will pop up.  It will take maybe half a minute to load because the program controlling the data repository is loaded (invisibly) on the page.  The first thing you see is register/login at the head of the screen - ignore this. The screen will soon fill with up to 100 thumbnail photos.

2 Double-click on the photo you want to start with (usually the first).

3  Another new window will pop up containing a media player. Maximise this window for viewing.

4 The new window will have a filmstrip down the right-hand edge of the screen, so that you can click on an item to view on the left-hand side.

5
Alternatively, click on the rectangular button near the right-hand end of the control bar at the bottom of the screen. this will enlarge the selected picture to full-screen size, and you can click on the play symbol at the left-hand end of the control bar at the bottom of the screen, to start a slideshow of the photos in the album. The control bar has standard symbols to control play.

The media player does not provide a top quality display - skin tone in particular can appears spotty.  If you want, you can download any picture for display independently of this, by right-clicking on your chosen thumbnail and choosing "download" from the context menu that opens up.

Because the files are spread over several servers, they are sometimes unavailable while they are migrated.  If most of the photos in any album are missing, try again the next day.

If you should choose to register with the host of this repository, humyo.com, it provides 30 Gbytes free of charge (25 Gbytes of this for media files only), and in the six months that I have used it, I haven't received any emails from them! Using the system does require a little thought, though.
